2021 Annual Awards

Deadline: March 5, 2021

Do you know any superb dietitians that should be recognized?  We know that you do.  Please take a few moments to nominate one or more of your colleagues for an award this year.  The following is a list of available awards:

  • Outstanding Dietetic Student- ODS
  • Emerging Dietetic Leader-EDL
  • Outstanding Dietitian of the Year-ODY
  • Recognized Dietetic Technician of the Year-RDTY
  • Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year-RYDY
  • Outstanding Dietetics Educator- ODE (KAND only – apply for national awards through NDEP)

Recognized Dietetic Technician of the Year

  • Participation in the Academy at the district, affiliate or national levels
  • Demonstrated concern for the promotion of optimal health and nutritional status of the general population
  • Demonstrated leadership role in the Dietetics association or employment; e.g., involvement with legislation, research, education, clinical dietetics, food service management, public relations, career guidance, etc.

Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year

  • Participation in the Academy at the district, affiliate or national levels
  • Demonstrated concern for the promotion of optimal health and nutritional status of the general population
  • Demonstrated leadership role in the Dietetics association or employment; e.g., involvement with legislation, research, education, clinical dietetics, food service management, public relations, career guidance, etc.
  • Must be 35 years of age or younger

Outstanding Dietitian of the Year

  • Participation in the academy at the district, affiliate or national levels
  • Demonstrated concern for the promotion of optimal health and nutritional status of the general population
  • Demonstrated leadership role in the Dietetics association or employment; e.g., involvement with legislation, research, education, clinical dietetics, food service management, public relations, career guidance, etc.
  • Preferably a resident of Kentucky

Outstanding Dietetic Student

  • Member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.  Students must be members by January 1st of the year in which they would receive the award.  Students must supply their membership number; membership identification numbers will not be provided to a third party (i.e., educators).
  • Student enrolled in ACEND-accredited dietetics education program (CP, DI, DPD, DT, FG, FB, IDE/FDE) in Kentucky.
  • Demonstrated academic achievement as documented by letters from program faculty or preceptor.
  • Demonstrated leadership and professional potential; e.g., honors, student dietetic association activities, community service activities, etc.
  • Preferably a resident of Kentucky

Outstanding Dietetic Educator Award

  • NOTE:
  • Member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics
  • Faculty with academic appointments in ACEND-accredited dietetics education programs:
    • Coordinated Program in Dietetics (CP)
    • Dietetic Internship (DI)
    • Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD)
    • Dietetic Technician Program (DT)
  • Demonstrated innovative teaching skills and techniques
  • Demonstrated mentoring of students
  • Demonstrated leadership; e.g., national, state, or district dietetic associated activities, community service, honors received, scientific and professional presentations, publications, etc.
  • Participation in the academy at the district, affiliate or national levels
  • Demonstrated concern for the promotion of optimal health and nutritional status of the general population
  • Demonstrated leadership role in the Dietetics association or employment; e.g., involvement with legislation, research, education, clinical dietetics, food service management, public relations, career guidance, etc.

Emerging Dietetic Leader

  • Employed in dietetics for at least 5 years, but not exceeding 10 years
  • Participation in the Academy at the district, affiliate, or national level
  • Demonstrated concern for the promotion of optimal health and nutritional status of the general population.
  • Demonstrated leadership role in the Dietetics association or employment; e.g., involvement with legislation, research, education, clinical dietetics, food service management, public relations, career guidance, etc.

Nomination Applications  for each of these awards need to include the corresponding data sheet and the following supporting documentation:

  1. Resume or Curriculum Vitae
  2. Reference Letter (minimum of one; maximum of three letters)
  3. Identify your participation in the academy at the district, affiliate or national levels.
  4. Documentation that reflects your concern for the promotion of optimal health and nutritional status of the general population.
  5. Documentation that reflects your leadership roles in the dietetic association or employment. Such as involvement with legislation, research, education, clinical dietetics, food service management, public relations, career guidance, etc.

Please note that the exception to items listed above is for the Outstanding Dietetic Student Award which has specific required documentation listed on the data sheet.

It is important to also note that all nomination packets are due by February 28, 2021
