More than 30 million people have applied for unemployment benefits since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. This number will continue to rise, making it difficult for many Americans to keep food on the table.
The House of Representatives recently passed the HEROES Act (H.R. 6800), which addresses rising rates of food insecurity and economic distress. Now, the Senate must write a companion bill and vote to pass the next stimulus package. Urge your senators to strengthen and protect critical federal nutrition programs, including the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program; school meals; the Child and Adult Care Food Program; the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children; and senior nutrition programs.
